About the Steve Nash Foundation
About the Foundation
Formed in 2001, given U.S. charitable status in 2004, and Canadian charitable status in 2007, the Steve Nash Foundation is a private foundation dedicated to assisting underserved children in their health, personal development, education and enjoyment of life. Like its NBA MVP founder, the Foundation is fast becoming a leader in assists . . . to a slightly shorter population.
Through our own initiatives, and through grants to public service and nonprofit entities in British Columbia, the Foundation aims to grow health in kids by funding projects that provide direct services to children affected by poverty, illness, abuse, or neglect, and create opportunity for education, health, and empowerment. We love the opportunity to get involved in the good work being done by child-focused ngo’s in our home province.
The Foundation also seeks to afford thoughtful solutions to community needs through our own projects to address critical health and education needs. The Foundation focuses its resources on underserved populations of children in British Columbia, Arizona, and the country of Paraguay. Equipping a neonatal intensive care ward in Asuncion to provide basic necessities for infants and their families, developing an early childhood education center of excellence to bring best practices to young kids that don’t always enjoy that access in Arizona, and uniting civic outreach, corporate and social service organizations to show kids how to get involved in their communities are examples of the daily work of the Foundation’s small but dedicated staff. Stemming from our first ever Steve Nash Foundation Charity Classic, held in Toronto, Ontario, in 2005, the Foundation is also working closely with the City to establish an all-access, all-kids after-school center there to build hope through hoops for kids.
While our work focuses exclusively on child welfare, we believe that corporations must share responsibility for the well-being of our communities. The Foundation employs and encourages environmentally-friendly office practices, and offers grantees assistance in developing their own recycling and energy conservation programs (check out our Green Leaf here). We also like to highlight the important work of other individuals and organizations, using our website links to increase their exposure, and contribute to their efforts. Further, we are proud to be working with young people that excel in their chosen fields, from whom we welcome energetic leadership and fresh voices.

You should always work on your own personal development. Working on being in better physical, emotional and financial shape are all beneficial. It’s always a good idea to improve different aspects of your life. You may never be done with developing yourself personally, since there is always room for improvement in your life. Good, positive habits can really help you to live a better, more fulfilling life.
You should surround yourself with people who share the same values as you. This will create a reinforcing environment for meeting your goals and also help you avoid people who will bring you down with constant criticism.
Avoiding decisions means missing opportunities in the arena of personal development. You need to face these decisions with confidence, even if you aren’t totally sure. Successful decisions evolve into good instincts. If you make a mistake, it is okay because you can learn from your mistakes. Think of your bad decisions as possibilities you have eliminated.
Try to make the most of your time at work and get more done. This trick involves taking more breaks when working. While this may sound odd, taking frequent breaks gives you time to relax and re-energize, so when you return to your work, you are more productive.
Place your personal central principles into practice. Everyone has beliefs that are central to their sense of self. Having a good foundation based on your core principles will benefit your sense of self esteem. This practice will encourage consistency, a valuable character trait to keep.
To grow in your own development, you must first acknowledge areas in which you are weak. When you realize how insignificant you really are, you will begin to understand you have more to learn. Once this concept is ingrained in your brain, you will be eager to learn new skills and expand your knowledge in order to improve yourself.
Exercise should be a part of everyone’s routine. There are lots of good, healthy reasons for exercising. Because physical activity stimulates production of feel-good chemicals in the body, a workout program may actually make you feel calmer and more positive.
Establish a rainy day fund. This can help you to avoid always turning to your credit cards every time something unexpected arises. If you save a couple of dollars each week, before long you will have an emergency fund. Emergency funds help in the short-term and the long-term, as you begin to bring your total debt down.
Without taking care of yourself, you will be unable to care for others. Whether you’re just starting your personal development plan or are well down the road and regardless of whether you’re succeeding or failing, you have to set aside time for yourself to rest, relax, and regroup.
Therapy is a great way for anyone who wishes to work on personal development to explore their own personal demons. Though self-help books and online resources are great, they typically will not offer as much as a one-on-one therapy session can. Beyond the professional expertise, one-on-one therapy offers the opportunity for real communication. The therapeutic discussion that you can have with a psychiatrist, is beyond the abilities of even the most comprehensive and detailed self-help book.
You can learn to control your emotions in a stressful situation. Once you learn how to remain calm in the midst of stress, you’ll have the confidence needed to cope with anything that happens in your life. Take a moment and focus on your breathing technique.
Learning to take controlled risks could bring you happiness. Many people stay in their comfort zones to avoid rejection or failure, so they aren’t as happy or fulfilled. Taking risks shows courage, which is a component that can help you on the path of happiness.
Having a good attitude will empower your growth as an individual. Having a bad attitude in life will never get you far and can in fact, lead you in the wrong direction. Instead, be “pragmatically positive.” This is the idea that a positive attitude will yield instrumental gain.
It may become discouraging to begin developing better personal habits and lifestyles, but once you start noticing your life developing towards a better future, you will never want to stop. You can always develop better ways to do things and it’s important to always try hard towards any personal development goals you have.
